Goat Anti-Chicken IgY (H+L) Serum is a polyclonal antibody, which is generated by immunizing the goats using chicken IgY whole molecule as an immunogen. Anti-Chicken IgY (H+L) specifically detects chicken IgY. In chickens, the major antibody is called IgY, not IgG. While IgY is functionally similar to IgG, structural differences make it inaccurate to refer to it as IgG in chickens. IgY lacks a hinge region and has a larger heavy chain compared to IgG. IgY is found in birds, reptiles, and amphibians, whereas IgG is found in mammals .Anti-chicken antibodies are used in research in the field of parasitological and virology research. It is also used in immunoprecipitation techniques such as immunoelectrophoresis (IEP) and Ouchterlony to identify serum proteins, by the presence or absence of a particular protein. This can also be used as secondary antibodies in a variety of immunological assays.
