Cystatin-C is a cysteine proteinase inhibitor produced by nucleated cells. It is a valuable marker in urine and blood for kidney function. The cystatin-C level, generally increases upon glomerular filtration decline, thus indicating kidney function decline. It is used as positive control in the cystatin-C test kit and can be used as calibrators and coating antigens in immunoassay based assays for IVD kit development.
