Ferritin is an intracellular protein that stores iron and releases the same in a controlled fashion. Ferritin is found in most tissues as a cytosolic protein, but small amounts are secreted into the serum where it functions as the carrier of iron. Anti-Human Ferritin antibody aids in the diagnosis of iron deficiency anaemia and iron overload. Ferritin levels reflect iron content in the body.
