Bence Jones proteins are the immunoglobulin light chains that are present in urine because of decreased kidney filtration capabilities due to renal failure. It is used in the diagnosis of multiple myeloma. It’s also used as a calibrator in various in vitro diagnostic kits. It’s mainly used as a renal markerandascontrols and calibrators in qualitative and quantitative turbidimetric, ELISA and CLIA, ECLIA, CMIA assays. It can be used in radial immunodiffusion, immunoelectrophoresis, western blotting, dot blot, and other similar assays. It can be used in the development of target-specific assay reagentsand also used for cancer research and development. Also, as an immunogen to raise antibodies in animals.
